11th September 2004 - 2012

8 years ago yesterday I married my wonderful husband Guy. In some ways it seems like yesterday, in others it seems like so much has happened it must be longer. One thing is clear is that I am as happy today as I was the day we got married. He truly is my perfect partner in crime.

As we were celebrating our 8th wedding anniversary I couldn't help but think the word ATE all the time. A bad pun I know but somehow it seems fitting for Guy and I as we love going out to restaurants. We aren't afraid of trying something a little different, in fact this often adds to the fun. One meal I will never forget is sitting on beer crates at a rickety old table in Tokyo making different animal signs with
the Japanese lady who was trying to explain to us how to cook our food on a steamer and thus create a broth. The food was delicious!

This year to celebrate our anniversary we managed to get a table booked at L'Enclume in Cartmel in the South Lakes. L'Enclume was made a little bit famous when Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon went there as part of The Trip on TV. So at the weekend we headed over to the Lakes to the pretty village of Cartmel.

Being The Lakes the weather wasn't forever on our side but it didn't matter too much as we were there for the food! And boy the food was good! Here is the 16 course menu we had......

There are foods on the menu that I have never had before, some I would possibly not pick myself but every single course was delicious and clever. The presentation was amazing, some of it just too pretty to eat...

...and the staff were brilliant, attentive, friendly and not at all stuffy. The sommelier amazingly on the ball, every time my wine glass was empty he immediately refilled it (honestly I was so impressed by him!) At the end of the night (some 3 hours later) I can safely say we were stuffed.

The following day we had a lot of food to burn off so on our way home we stopped off at High Force waterfall and did a 2 hour walk.

However in the car boot was a fine collection of cheeses which we picked up at the Cartmel Cheese shop before leaving which we enjoyed on our return home.

So it is quite fitting that the anniversary card I designed this year did follow the ATE theme. Its a nice little look down memory lane for Guy and I at all the restaurants we have so far visited and will hopefully return to some day.
