For my 50th birthday mr L and I went to Malaysia. I have read a blog post about Georgetown in Penang, Malaysia when researching where I would like to spend my "big birthday" and Georgetown sounded like the sort of place I would really enjoy.
The town in full of old colonial buildings which are stunning and street art is huge there, as is food, food is everywhere! There are murals on almost every corner, so much so that it can often go un-noticed. There is one particular street in Georgetown, Lebuh
Armenian which has a real buzz about it. It is where the famous Ernest Zacharevic (Malaysia's Banksy) interactive mural "
Children on Bicycle" is.
It is also where Heritage House 25 is. We stumbled across this store and spent a lot of time browsing before coming back the following day to buy some things. Heritage House is filled full of designer makers from Penang selling their work. You can meet the designers, many of whom are actually working alongside their stall.
One of them was the lovely Zahidah from ZNG art who hand paints amazing designs onto many things such as jewellery and bags. The designs are so intricate and the colour combos just beautiful. I bought a couple of pieces from her.
It is so nice to find and be able to support other small businesses especially when travelling. I love having something special to bring home from trips alongside my many, many photo memories!
